Southwestern Community College will host its second annual Volunteer Fair

Local nonprofits and agencies and a few nationally known nonprofits that serve Western North Carolina will attend the fair and present their information in the Burrell building. The event is free and open to the public.

Southwestern Community College will host its second annual Volunteer Fair from 9 a.m.-noon March 2, at the Jackson Campus, 447 College Drive.
“I am really excited that we are taking our Volunteer Fair a step further this year. Not only are we providing the opportunity for people to network and find their perfect volunteer site, we are also providing them a chance to serve with quick and free, but still meaningful activities,” said Amanda Allen, administrative assistant of health sciences and co-chair of the SCC Cares Committee.

Some of the nonprofits include The American Red Cross, Appalachian Animal Rescue, Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, Disability Partners, Four Seasons Hospice, REACH of Macon County, Full Spectrum Farms, Good Samaritan Clinic of Jackson County, Great Smokies Health Foundation, Haywood/Jackson Volunteer Center, Macon County Senior Services and Macon TRACS.

Two on-the-spot service opportunities are being added this year during the fair. One is a craft station where volunteers will make gifts to be donated to cancer survivors at the Jackson, Macon and Swain counties’ Relay for Life Event. The craft station is available for drop-in from 10:30 a.m.-noon. The second is a spring cleaning event where attendants are asked to donate gently used clothing and eyeglasses to area nonprofits.
